Panzer Dragoon (パンツァードラグーン Pantsu~ādoragūn ) is a video game series originally developed by Team Andromeda and published by Sega. The series mostly consists of rail shooters, with the exception of the role-playing game Panzer Dragoon Saga.
The Panzer Dragoon series primarily consists of dragon-riding combat, where the player controls both a young humanoid rider equipped with a gun and a dragon with the ability to fire lock-on lasers. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, focusing on themes such as war, survival, freedom, imperialism, and the environment.
The original Panzer Dragoon trilogy was created by Team Andromeda between 1995-1998 for the Sega Saturn and consists of two rail shooters: Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei. In 1998 at the trilogy was concluded with a ground breaking role-playing game called Panzer Dragoon Saga.
In 2002, an epilogue for the series called Panzer Dragoon Orta was developed by Smilebit for the original Xbox, returning the series to it's rail shooter roots.
In 2020, a remake of the original Panzer Dragoon was released on Nintendo Switch and other modern platforms by Forever Entertainment and MegaPixel Studio. A remake of Panzer Dragoon II Zwei is also in development from the creators of the first remake, and a virtual reality Panzer Dragoon game is coming from Wildman, Inc.
