Raul was a hired hunter who was employed by An'jou to assist the caravan. He was a refugee from the village of Verato.

During Edge’s quest, Raul asked Edge to give a pipe from his old town to any other survivor, however at first he did not specify a reason. Edge gave the pipe to Jael, another refugee of Verato who was working in Juba’s bar in Zoah’s Liberal District.

Later Edge learnt that Raul once left his old village and became a mercenary for the Empire. When Raul was asked to control the borderlands where Verato was located, Raul abandoned the Empire and went ahead to warn his home of the impending attack. However, Raul was too late; the Empire had destroyed the town. Raul found the Verato Pipe in the ashes. He felt that he was a traitor to the town and did not deserve to keep the pipe.

Raul was the only hunter at the caravan when Enkak became sick, as An’jou had left to search for the medicine to heal his son.

When Edge was planning to attack the Imperial airforce base, Raul gave him some papers about Imperial bases. When the base was destroyed, Raul correctly believed it was the dragon who destroyed it.

When Zoah was destroyed he heard a rumor of its destruction. However, he decided not to say anything to the other caravaners about it. Raul was angry at the Imperial troops because they did the same thing to Zoah as they did to his homeland.

When Jephthah was waiting for Edge at the caravan, Raul met him and told Edge that he must be a popular guy to have a Seeker wanting to talk to him.

When Bezer’s body was found near the caravan, Raul wondered who the boy in the airship was. He told Edge that Bezer did not look like an Imperial trooper.

After the Seventh Emperor died, and the Grig Orig became infested with monsters, Raul commented that he had not seen any Imperial troopers recently. He asked, “what happened to the war?”
