Simurgh

Simurgh (シームルグ, Shīmurugu^?) is a meek manta-like creature from Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon: Remake that lives in the Desert. Their bodies glow with light-emitting cells.^[1]

Simurgh can be found at the start of Episode 2 along with a worm, as well as in the tunnel. They do not attack Kyle and his dragon, but will get in their way if not shot down.

Appearance[]

Simurgh are dark, flat, flying creatures with blue bioluminescent markings on their bodies. In the original Panzer Dragoon, they also had some light brown on the edges of their bodies. The shape of the simurgh is similar to a manta ray or some types of sea slugs. In Panzer Dragoon: Remake, the head of the simurgh is similar to the head of a cuttlefish.

The gigralyph from Panzer Dragoon Saga has a similar appearance to the simurgh.

A 3D model of the simurgh as well as a burrower was posted on the official Panzer Dragoon: Remake Twitter account in January 2020.^[2]

Name origin[]

The simurgh in Panzer Dragoon is named after the simurgh, a benevolent mythical beast from Persian mythology. It is often depicted as a large peacock with the head of a dog and a lion's claws.
