Worms (ワーム Wāmu) are gigantic mutated creatures that live in the Desert. A distinct larval and adult version are visible. According to the Panzer Dragoon guidebook, worms travel through the desert in groups of "one female, three to four males, and about ten larvae."[1]
Worms attack using acid spit and by shooting their tails as projectiles. They are protected by a hard, armored exoskeleton that makes defeating them difficult.
It is unknown if the worms attacked Kyle purposefully or were simply defending their territory; in Panzer Dragoon Saga, Gash tells Edge that the worms wouldn't attack them.
Yukio Futatsugi has indicated that the worms in the Panzer Dragoon series are based on the sandworms in Frank Herbert's Dune.[2]
